Heavy Knits, Tweed, mid lengths, brogues, round neck blouses, flesh coloured socks and tights – All styles that you would probably associate with your Gran. Well quite frankly, your Nana has never looked hotter because Granny Chic, is everywhere right now!
Vintage has been around for years now, but it seems this is taking things to the next level. People are striving to ‘look old’ as well as ‘buy old.’ The Miss Marple effect is very well represented by the likes of Alexa Chung and Peaches Geldof and the trend is so strong at the moment, girls have even been known to give themselves a purple rinse! (I’d maybe stay away from this part unless you want to buy a one way ticket to frazzle city.)
I had fun teaming this floral knitted with black opaque tights and brogues. The dress has a frill going around the side which is feminine and flattering and the material is warm (giving me the tea cosy affect!)
This brown floral dress is from the Mina Autumn 2011 collection. It is an easy throw on tunic style dress ideal for your autumn wardrobe and the thick cream knee highs are a cute retro combo. The dress is an ideal casual daytime piece, funked up by the socks, ribbed and woolly to add to the granny chic feel!
I am in <3 with this dog tooth skirt. The tulip shape is so flattering and the burgundy colour is fab. This cream blouse has some lovely lace detail too!
I’m not suggesting you stagger out there with your zimmer frames and swap your entire wardrobe for that of an 85 year olds, but a touch of this trend is fun, and the most interesting wardrobes are the ones that combine elements of old and new. Plus remember your Gran always dresses for comfort, fighting against those bunions, varicose veins and arthritis with her terribly trendy relaxed fashion. Careful, you may find yourself hooked! ;)
